Breastfeeding is Best for the Baby
Breast milk is the best nutrition for your baby. It contains important minerals and nutrients and is naturally gentle to your baby's stomach. Also, studies have shown that babies who are breastfed have a better chance of fighting diseases and infections, as well as fewer risks of SIDS, asthma, and leukemia. Overall, babies that drink breast milk experience fewer health problems as they grow and develop physically and mentally.
Experts recommend that babies be breastfed exclusively for the first six months of their life. Only use formula when absolutely necessary.
Some women cannot or should not breastfeed. If a woman is experiencing cancer treatment or is a regular user of illegal drugs, she should not breastfeed. Your doctor might also have other reasons for telling you not to breastfeed. In those rare situations, your doctor will recommend the best alternatives.
